Azure Hybrid Overview

Hybrid cloud models provide organizations with an opportunity to leverage cloud resources without going all in right from the start. Many companies today have extensive technical infrastructures that are hosted mainly on-premises or in a private cloud. With a hybrid cloud model these existing resources can be extended with public cloud hosted services without a large-scale migration project. These services can provide improved management, security, and intelligence to a wide range of resources. In this post I will cover a few key areas where Azure services can provide immense value in a hybrid model.

Management Services: Azure provides several services that allow organizations to manage all of their resources in a central location. One of the main services offered is Azure Monitor, which can connect to cloud or on-premises environments to provide insights on the performance and identify any potential issues with the connected resources. Another service worth noting is Azure Site Recovery, this service provides users with a method to replicate their critical workloads to a secondary location to ensure availability in the event of an outage. Disaster recovery is an essential consideration for all organizations and Site Recovery provides exceptional flexibility for a tailored solution.

Security Services: Security is at the forefront of any strategy when building or maintaining critical resources. Microsoft Defender for Cloud is a comprehensive security solution that can assist in securing resources in Azure, on-premises, or in third-party public cloud environments. Defender for Cloud provides organizations with extensive security monitoring, recommendations, and remediation services to ensure your resources are as secure as possible. Microsoft Sentinel is another service that provides intelligent security insights across environments by leveraging AI capabilities of other Azure services. Sentinel constantly monitors resources through various connectors and has the ability to proactively respond to incidents as they arise.

Development Services: Azure DevOps provides users with a range of services that support the development of software through its entire life cycle. Azure DevOps Server is the on-premises offering of the service with a free version for teams of 5 or less called Azure DevOps Server Express. With Azure DevOps Server teams can utilize DevOps services that assist in planning, version control, CI/CD, and much more. With various deployment options you are able to tailor your deployment to meet individual needs in an efficient way.

These areas represent only a fraction of the Azure hybrid offerings. Adopting a hybrid or multicloud model can bring massive value to your organization and help gain a competitive edge.
