Valuable Recent Updates to Power Apps

         Microsoft Power Apps is a dynamic PaaS offering that allows users to create functional low-code applications. Power Apps can integrate with any data source through use of prebuilt and custom connectors to provide an interactive application for virtually any business need. Working together with other Power Platform services you are able to quickly implement AI solutions, dashboards, and much more to enhance the functionality and performance of your apps. The Power Platform has frequent upgrades in all aspects of its functionality, a few of the latest notable upgrades specifically in Power Apps include:

  • ·    Test Engine: This tool is an enhanced version of the legacy Test Studio and allows comprehensive testing of canvas apps. Being a brand-new feature, this tool will soon be available for use with all types of Power Apps as development continues. Test Engine is publicly available now on GitHub with simple step-by-step directions to follow and start testing. Bugs hinder the rollout of software constantly, with Test Engine being able to thoroughly test each aspect you can release your app with confidence that it can handle anything thrown its way.
  • ·       The Creator Kit: Initially released in May, this kit has recently been officially released and thus is ready for use in production environments. This kit leverages the Fluent UI framework to make UI/UX design easier on the makers of the app and provide users a smooth interface to interact with. Users of apps built with this kit will enjoy the familiar layout and professionalism that is associated with all Microsoft products. The Creator Kit can be downloaded and installed using simple directions provided here.
  • ·       Cards for Power Apps: While this feature is only in preview at the time of writing it is a very exciting development in the Power Apps ecosystem. Cards are micro-apps that can be embedded within other Microsoft apps like the ultra-popular Teams app. Cards can take advantage of the wide array of connectors offered to integrate with nearly any data source and add logic through Power Fx expressions. The integration capabilities of cards are unique and can add immense value by greatly increasing efficiency in a simple way. The development of cards is definitely something to follow closely to gain a competitive edge when they are stabilized for production environments
